Student Press Freedom Day, a national day of action to highlight student journalism and its independence, commemorates the anniversary of the Hazelwood School District v. Each year, GSPA recognizes the top student journalist in the state with the Georgia Champion Journalist Award. The winner receives a $100 prize and represents the state in the Journalism Education Association's National Journalist of the Year competition. Read more here.

The 2020 First Amendment Essay competition deadline is Jan. 31, 2020. The contest is open to all GSPA members, and there is no entry fee.
