Virtual media law clinic, training seminar offers First Amendment guidance

Law students and practicing attorneys working at the University of Georgia School of Law’s First Amendment Clinic will host a virtual media law clinic on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020. Using this link, students and staff members can submit legal questions related to newsgathering spanning First Amendment, privacy and copyright law, and sign up for a 30-minute counseling session to discuss your legal question.

The First Amendment Clinic, which offers free legal representation and serves as an educational resource for topics related to the First Amendment, will accept questions on a rolling basis until Saturday, Sept. 19.

Additionally, the First Amendment Clinic offers a Media Law Training Seminar to give student journalists an overview of media law and common issues they may encounter while reporting. The presentation is offered via Zoom and takes approximately one hour, including time for Q&A. If you would like to schedule a training seminar, please contact samantha.hamilton@uga.edu.

If you are a high school journalism student or adviser to high school media publications in Georgia, you are also invited to complete this confidential survey co-sponsored by the First Amendment Clinic and the Georgia Scholastic Press Association to help us better understand your experiences—what topics you can or cannot cover in your schools.
