Applications open for 2020-21 GSPA Student Advisory Board

Energetic and engaged students interested in expanding their leadership skills, bringing a new vision and shaping GSPA are invited to apply for the 2020-21 Student Advisory Board.

Applications Due Sept. 30

Applications are available online here. In addition to filling out the form, please email your resume and a cover letter to gspa@uga.edu with the subject line "2020-21 Student Advisory Board Application."

The cover letter should be 200-400 words. It should briefly explain your interest in the board, describe your vision for the role a student advisory board can play with the Georgia Scholastic Press Association and list ideas to improve GSPA.

The student board will consist of one/two representatives from each of the following regions: Region 1 North- Dade County to Richmond County, Region 2 Central- Harris County to McIntosh County, Region 3 South -Stewart County to Charlton County. The selected students will be also representatives of different publication types: newspaper/newsmagazine, online website, yearbook, literary/creative magazine or broadcast.

Additional criteria:

  • The board is open to Georgia high school juniors or seniors connected with the publications or productions of their representative schools.

  • The students' publications or productions should hold current Georgia Scholastic Press Association membership.

  • Terms will last the academic year through May 2021.

  • Duties include assisting with events (virtual or in-person), attending virtual board meetings, and generally serving as ambassadors to promote GSPA.

  • A former GSPA Student Advisory Board member may reapply for consideration for a second term, but those opportunities are limited.
