Scholastic Journalism Week 2025: Celebrating the Power of the Press

Scholastic Journalism Week is taking place Feb. 24-28, 2025, with this year’s theme, “Power of the Press.” This week-long celebration highlights the crucial role of journalism in society and underscores the impact free press has on democracy. While the landscape of journalism evolves with technology, the role of the press in keeping the public informed remains unchanged.

To spread the word about Scholastic Journalism week, JEA asks schools to share their journalism work on social media using the hashtags #SJW2025 and #PowerofthePress.

Additionally, JEA invites schools to submit their work to be featured on JEA’s social media accounts, with a focus on highlighting the ways in which scholastic newsrooms around the country are diverse. Schools can submit their content to be showcased during #SJW2025. The opportunity to apply can be found here.

JEA also encourages students to participate by utilizing their curated lesson plans that align with the daily themes of SJW 2025. These plans are free and can be found on the JEA website.

This year, GSPA is joining the celebration with Student Ambassador Instagram takeovers, offering a behind-the-scenes look at student journalism in action.
