Free Summer Advisers Workshop planned for June 6-7

Mercer University's Center for Collaborative Journalism and the Georgia Scholastic Press Association will host a High School Journalism Advisers Workshop June 6-7 at the Center for Collaborative Journalism on Mercer's Macon campus. The workshop itself will be free to attend and will include sessions such as introduction to audio, introduction to photo and video, on writing and editing and crafting story ideas.

The workshop is open to middle and high school teachers in Georgia who currently advise student media publications or who are interested in starting scholastic journalism programs at their schools.

Seasoned media advisers and newbies alike will get to convene with their peers and acquire/refresh practical, teachable skills at this intensive retreat. Sessions will be led by the staff of the CCJ with special guest visual journalist Mark Johnson from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

In addition to the sessions listed above, we would like to gauge adviser interest on a few specialty sessions and hear what you’d like to learn more about through a form located here.

The CCJ has arranged a block of rooms for attendees for $119 per night at the Hilton Garden Inn at Mercer University under the name “Journalism Adviser Camp.” Light refreshments and lunch on June 6 and breakfast and lunch on June 7 will be provided for attendees by our sponsor. Please contact Meg Donahue at Mercer University with any questions. Update: Housing scholarships were limited and are no longer available.
