Wesleyan School's Andrea Shupert named GSPA's 2025 Adviser of the Year
/Andrea Shupert, adviser of the Green and Gold newspaper at Wesleyan School, has been selected as GSPA’s 2025 Adviser of the Year. The award recognizes a journalism teacher who goes beyond the “call of duty” in supporting their staff.

Shupert has consistently pushed the publication to new heights, producing ten issues annually, each earning high rankings from GSPA. Beyond her technical expertise, Shupert encourages a class atmosphere that balances high expectations with genuine care for her students, according to her staff members.
"Mrs. Shupert’s precise and direct assessment of my writing has helped me to learn from my mistakes and become a better journalist," staff writer Allie Sperling wrote in a nomination letter.
Shupert’s efforts extend far beyond the classroom, staff noted. From implementing a new curriculum to enhancing students’ AP style knowledge, writing proficiency, and interviewing skills, she is constantly working to provide the best possible education for her aspiring journalists. Even during summer breaks, she dedicates her time to prepare the August issue, according to her nomination letter.
Her students also praise Shupert for the sense of community she fosters. Whether through in-class holiday celebrations or simply remembering small details about students' lives, Shupert ensures that every member of feels valued, according to Lauren Tucker, editor-in-chief of the Green and Gold.
"She truly cares for her students; she wants them to grow not only as journalists but also in their character as friends, classmates, and leaders,” Tucker wrote. “I cannot express my gratitude enough for what Shupert has done for me as a role model, mentor, and advisor."
